Food

The project called "Sea Food Culture" aims to promote a sustainable professional fishing, able to preserve sea life conservation as well as to provide alimentary resources. The number of programs to certify and rate the sustainability of seafood has grown in the past decade. Eco-labels and eco-ratings are meant to act as shorthand to help make environmentally better choices. There are now more than a dozen programs worldwide. We are not a certification centre, but we want ensure to responsible consumers, when the buy sea foods, exactly:

  • Where the fishes are cropped
  • When they are cropped
  • How fishes are cropped
  • If fishermen adhere to sustainable practices
  • Impact of fishing methods on habit

Considering Mediterranean sea, the idea is to connect virtually responsible consumers with fishing markets in Italy.  Initially, the project foresees a pilot involving professional fishermen located in South West Sicily and responsible consumers living in Italy.  For more details about this project please to see the link "Sea Food Culture Project" (on line soon!).
